These days Campus Placements are acquiring a new edge, though the shadows
of recession are still lingering around. Recently Mr. P. Chidambaram asserted
that India was facing a slowdown and not recession. It has been observed that
after recession started receding, many companies from sectors like
manufacturing, automobiles, IT/ITES, advertising, pharmaceuticals, shipping,
telecom, finance/ banking have revived the campus-hiring activity.
With sprawling campuses, state of the art facilities and a broad spectrum of courses covering around 60+
different fields, MIT has successfully managed to create a niche for itself in
the field of education. The focus of MITSOM is to provide top notch level of
education. It is at par with the professional expectations from the business
world. This is a continuous process which needs regular monitoring. On this
aspect, there cannot be any compromise. Our main aim is to ensure that we
produce corporate ready professionals. What makes us stand apart is the value
based education we offer with a unique blend of science and spirituality.
A marked difference is, now corporates visiting Campuses are looking for
students with special grooming towards corporate readiness. Obviously, groomed
students with intensive training would help to fulfill the needs of
multi-sector corporates in a wide variety of functional areas. It is been
observed that students do not easily apply for profiles offered by Corporates.
They have become extremely choosy when it comes to profile, package and brand.
Considering management student’s choosiness and competitive environment, many
Corporates has started visiting campuses prior to Campus Placement Activity. In
this visit they try to elaborate the job profile for which they would be coming
in near future. This exercise guides MITSOM students for choosing sector /
profile. During this interaction students can clear their doubts by directly
asking questions to company executives. Employers have started hiring only
those who are flexible and ready to enter any faculty in spite of the
specialization chosen. Cross functional profiles are in demand. Candidate with
MBA Finance degree may need to work on HR/ Marketing/ International Business or
any other domain as per project requirement.
As per a recent survey, IT /
Software companies have started bridging the gap between corporate expectation
and academic learning so that they can reduce upon the training cost as well as
can get more efficient managers to enhance the productivity. These day
companies invest lot of money on freshers for their certifications. They train
these management graduates on required skills and allot them a project as per
their enhanced skill sets. This is fruitful for both candidates as well as to
the corporate. Only hitch is when certified candidate leaves the job immediately
after the certification. To overcome this problem many companies have started
asking them to sign an employment bond, for which many candidates are not ready.
And unfortunately they ruin the opportunity they got.
Being at MIT since last 10
years, I have experienced a shift of company policies in hiring management
graduates. Now they prefer a finished product rather than a half-baked product
like a mid course joinee. Many big brands prefer to take candidates only after
they complete their 4th semester. There is a clear shift from annual
appraisals to quarterly performance review so that they can identify the talent
and utilize it in a versatile manner.
At the stage of joining
management course, the student hood should be left behind and a conscious
effort to groom oneself into a Professional should begin. This is a two year journey
and everyone aspiring for a good placement must accomplish it with his own
initiative and effort. MITSOM will help you to get your dream company in
campus.
